Naomi Campbell is the Artist behind Wonkie Knee Art
From the Artist.
I am an Artist by trade and nature. I am most authentic when I am creating. Creating anything, art, food, houses, joy, classes and so on. My purpose is to have a positive impact in my world and the people I meet along this journey called life. I truly believe art IS therapy. Art provides us with avenues to express, feelings, emotions, and give us our voice. It teaches us about overcoming obstacles, resilience, and problem solving. Through the process of art making, we discover our true self. My purpose is to create a legacy through art, by allowing as many people as possible to access art, art supplies and art making, in my workshops I endeavour to meet people where they are at, work through their misconceptions about art, art making and encourage them to believe, and find their own art voice. My personal art practice is usually rooted in nature and realism, which usually always includes a Wonkie twist. I pride myself on working with clients to bring their vision to life, using art material best suited to capture the emotion, aesthetic and message they wish to convey.
The journey so far.
Naomi completed a Bachelor of Visual Design (Illustration) in 2000. Moved to Victoria and was a part-time artist, working on commissions. In 2012 she returned to University for a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) and returned to Adelaide upon completion.

Naomi studied Art Therapy in 2016 and through this practise she confirmed for her that ‘Art AS Therapy’ is her place. 2017-2019 after suffering a loss of a loved one, Naomi began learning wheel throwing, volunteering/working in a wildlife sanctuary and volunteering in a youth arts program. In 2020 she was awarded a City of Charles Stuart Placemakers grant. This grant launched her YouTube channel, and she created the Ukiyo series.
In 2021 she began homeschool art classes, Earthship building, and embracing her passion to bring art making to as many people as she could. Naomi mentored and worked with 15yo Charlotte on her hooded plover’s mural at Ozone reserve. They also completed the Warrawong water tank murals with participants in an Art camp, and hosted and participated in 3 different SALA exhibition.
From 2022 to the present her practice is now as a multi media artist, creating works about her experiences, workshops with a variety of groups and she is available to create commissions. I was born in Stirling, South Australia in 1978 and grew up in the Adelaide Hills surrounded by trees and animals. It is not surprising that I am inspired by nature.
In 2000 I completed a Bachelor of Visual Communications (Illustration Design) at the University of South Australia and completed my Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) at La Trobe University (Bendigo) in 2012.
Upon returning home to Adelaide, (2012) I decided it was time to return to my one true love of being an artist.
Specialising in pet portraits in pastel pencil from photographs, I create an affordable lasting memory of your animal friends from cats to dogs and guinea pigs to monkeys. If you have any kind of pet from an adorable cat to a lovable dog or something more exotic, I am inspired by a challenge and would be honoured to transform your pet into a work of art.
Inspired by nature and working primarily in pastel pencils for drawing and Acrylic for painting, I enjoy the challenge of recreating nature just as it is. These include amazing works ranging from zoo animals to the humble flower.
Working with acrylic paint, I also thrive creating scenes that belong in this world with a slight twist, making art that is natural but a little Wonkie. Exploring ideas that could be possible and anchoring them in realistic environments, allows the viewer to feel that my paintings are reality, even though they sometimes contain elements of fantasy and mythical creatures.
My fascination with Japanese culture has inspired a unique collection of origami art – in bottles, jars, frames with cut paper, and or acrylic and a variety of mobiles.
