This introduction course is based around the topic of flora (plants) and fauna (animals). It is a 5 week course including Australian origami animals, a collaborative Sandala or nature mandalas (depending on weather), Biome collage and finishing with hand-built ceramics over two weeks.
This introduction course encourages the students to explore the unique and diverse range of Australian animals, as well as the topic of bushfires and their impact in Australia. Working in collaboration with the other students provides the students with an avenue for social interaction and working as a team. Biome collage has a research component in which the student is required to choose a biome and find flora and fauna that is from that biome. Finally in the last two weeks we learn ceramics hand building techniques of slip, score, pinch, coil and slab building. The students are encouraged to explore their imagination and creativity to create a sculpture from clay that can be a succulent pot, a keep-sake container, a water dish for their pet, or anything their heart desires.
